Meisen is a fabric that was created as a common people's kimono in the late Edo period (1603-1868) and later became popular due to its comfort and low price, and became even more popular in the Taisho period (1912-1926) due to its bold patterns and beautiful colors.
Even today, the beautiful colors and patterns are so popular that it has become extremely difficult to obtain vintage Meisen fabrics.
